Management Team
Peter Turner
President
Peter Turner brings more than 40 years of experience to the company, including more than 20 years of plasma fractionation research and development, production, engineering and business expertise. Mr. Turner contributed to the successful acquisition of Aventis Behring to form CSL Behring in 2004 and has served as its President since the company was established. Under his leadership, the firm has introduced two major new global products and brought a number of existing products into new markets, growing sales to $US 2.1billion for the year ending June ’07. Mr. Turner previously served as Chief Executive Officer and President of ZLB Bioplasma AG and ZLB Bioplasma Inc. (the ZLB Bioplasma Group) from July 2000 to March 2004. During this time, he was also responsible for the integration of ZLB and Nabi Plasma Collection Centers into the CSL Group. From 1996 to 2000, Mr. Turner served as General Manager of CSL Bioplasma Australia, a business unit of CSL. As General Manager, he was responsible for CSL’s plasma therapeutics business in Australia and neighboring countries. Prior to this, Mr. Turner served as Operations Manager and Plasma Products Project Director, roles that involved the development of CSL’s state of art plasma fractionation plant. Mr. Turner has served on the Board of Directors of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association since 2001 including four years as Chairman, and holds a B.Sc. in chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology from the University of Melbourne and a MBA from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
Alan Anderson
Vice President, Western Europe
With 15 years in general management in the pharmaceutical and protein therapeutic sectors, Alan Anderson has proven experience in brand and strategic marketing.
Dr. Anderson is responsible for CSL Behring’s commercial activities in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Ireland and the Nordic countries. While Vice President of Northern Europe, he led sales and marketing efforts throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Among his many accomplishments is leading Europe/Asia sales and marketing VPs in a global turnaround project. He also headed a cross-functional team investigating new treatments and diagnostics using plasma samples.
He received his bachelor of science degree in pharmacology from Aberdeen University in Scotland, his doctorate in pharmacology from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen; and his master’s in business administration from the Open University. Earlier in his career, he was General Manager at Rhône-Poulenc Rorer (RPR) New Zealand Ltd. He also worked as an International Product Manager responsible for defining marketing strategy for psychotropics. Dr. Anderson began his career as a clinical trials coordinator.

Greg Boss
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Using his two decades’ experience in law and finance, Greg Boss is responsible for worldwide legal operations for all CSL Behring Group companies. Mr. Boss joined CSL Behring’s predecessor, ZLB Bioplasma, in 2001, serving as U.S. General Counsel. In this capacity, he was instrumental in the company’s acquisition and integration of the Aventis Behring business. Upon the merger of ZLB Bioplasma and Aventis Behring in 2004, Mr. Boss assumed the worldwide General Counsel position for the combined companies. He is based in CSL Behring’s headquarters in King of Prussia, Pa., and currently oversees legal operations on five continents. Prior to joining ZLB Bioplasma, Mr. Boss served as Vice President and Senior Counsel for CB Richard Ellis International, a global real estate and financial services firm. Before that, he worked 10 years in private practice, focusing on corporate and securities law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and commercial transactions. Mr. Boss received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Southern California in 1987. Wally Casey
Senior Vice President and General Manager, Kankakee Plant
Wally Casey is responsible for manufacturing operations at the Kankakee, Illinois facility. In this role, he oversees all functional management areas to ensure the company business objectives are attained. He is also responsible for formulating strategic plans and directing their implementation.
Wally Casey has worked in the CSL Behring Kankakee manufacturing facility for over 19 years. He began his career in 1988 as a supervisor in Coagulation Manufacturing with Armour Pharmaceutical, a predecessor company of CSL Behring. He held positions of increasing responsibility within manufacturing including Supervisor, Process Manager, Manager, Associate Director and Director. As part of his cross-functional development, he also held positions in Research and Development, Purchasing, and most recently in Engineering, where he served as Senior Director from 2002 to 2007. In this role, he successfully led a team to incorporate the CSL IscomatrixÒ adjuvant into the Kankakee site. Additionally, he spearheaded the initiative to bring the Influenza Virus Vaccine filling project to Kankakee.
Mr. Casey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Illinois.
He has completed advanced management training programs at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania; IESE Business School of the University of Navarra, Barcelona, Spain; Ashridge Business School, Berkhamsted, United Kingdom; and Mt. Eliza, Melbourne Business School, Australia.
Karen Etchberger
Senior Vice President, Global Quality
Karen Etchberger, Ph.D., joined ZLB Behring in 2006 and is responsible for ensuring the continuing safety and high quality of our worldwide portfolio of products. Based in Switzerland, Dr. Etchberger serves as Head of Global Quality as well as Head of Quality of the Bern site. In this capacity, she has gained broad experience in the global regulatory environment. She joined JRH Biosciences Inc. in 1991, and in 1993 became Technical Director. When CSL Limited bought the company in 1994, she contributed to JRH’s success by leading the development of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing process, providing oversight for all the regulatory aspects. Dr. Etchberger graduated from the University of Maine and holds a doctorate degree in immunology and virology. Return to Top
Randy Furby
Senior Vice President and General Manager, ZLB Plasma
Randy L. Furby manages plasma operations for ZLB Plasma. He is responsible for donor recruitment, screening, processing and retention. In addition to his responsibility for plasma collection used in the CSL Behring companies, which includes strict adherence to all regulatory, quality and safety guidelines, Mr. Furby oversees plasma testing, logistics, new business development and third party sales.
ZLB Plasma operates 65 collection centers in the United States and eight in Germany. The business operations include two testing laboratories located in Knoxville, Tennessee and Goettigen, Germany, and two plasma logistics centers located in Indianapolis, Indiana and Schwalmstadt, Germany. Currently, ZLB Plasma employs more than 4,000 individuals.
Mr. Furby has been involved in pharmaceutical management and administration for more than two decades, having worked for companies such as Armour Pharmaceuticals and Centeon that merged with ZLB in 2004 to form CSL Behring. Prior to working for the CSL organization, Mr. Furby was employed by Becton-Dickenson and Bausch & Lomb.
Mr. Furby began his career as a Senior Buyer and was later promoted to Purchasing Manager. In 1994, he was promoted to the position of Director of Materials Management and then Director of Quality Administration. Five years later, he was promoted to Senior Director of Supply Chain and Contract Manufacturing. He also served as Operations Controller and Senior Director of Finance before becoming Senior Vice President and General Manager for the Kankakee, Illinois facility in 2004. In this role, he oversaw manufacturing operations and was responsible for product quality, safety and efficiency.
Mr. Furby holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska, Kearney and a Certificate in Advanced Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Paul Hermecz
Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Paul Hermecz was appointed as Senior Vice President, Information Systems and Chief Information Officer of ZLB Behring in 2004. In addition to leading the Corporate IS function, Mr. Hermecz is responsible for overseeing all aspects of enterprise-wide information systems. He coordinates all IS management across CSL Behring group to integrate best practices and technology, to maximize cost and quality synergies across the organization. Mr. Hermecz joined CSL in Melbourne, Australia in 1992. Since then, he has assumed a number of engineering and executive management roles associated with the construction of plasma fractionation facilities and the acquisition of new businesses. Prior to heading up CSL Behring IT, he was a member of the ZLB Plasma Services Executive Management Team and led the IT integration associated with the acquisition and establishment of the Plasma Services business. Mr. Hermecz holds a Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Systems Engineering from Swinburne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. Dennis Jackman
Senior Vice President, Public Affairs
Dennis Jackman is responsible for optimizing stakeholder impact on our company’s ability to provide lifesaving therapies worldwide. Among other things, he oversees policy development, government and industry affairs, internal and external communications, ally/coalition development and company associates. His areas of expertise include reimbursement, regulatory policy and international trade. Prior to working at CSL Behring, Mr. Jackman served as Executive Director of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association for North America, the industry trade group for advocacy, quality standards and communications. He now serves on the association’s Global Management Committee. He has held senior public affairs positions in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries since 1989. Before this he was senior legislative aide to U.S. Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, focusing on appropriations for a member of the Appropriations Committee and business-related matters, including pharmaceutical, trade and tax policy. Mr. Jackman holds an master’s degree in business administration from Cornell University Johnson School of Management. He received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Pennsylvania State University. Return to Top
Uwe E. Jocham
Senior Vice President and General Manager, CSL Behring AG
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, Uwe Jocham studied pharmaceutics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich. After receiving his certification, he became a Scientific Assistant in Research and Doctrine at the Institute for Pharmaceutical Technology at LMU.
Mr. Jocham’s career in the pharmaceutical industry started in 1993 when he became Head of Production and Project Manager for building a new plant at Hexal, a major manufacturer of generics in Bavaria.
In 1994, he moved to Switzerland to be a Project Manager for a new plant in Chassot AG (Bern). Later, he became Head of Production, Development and Logistics at Chassot AG. He was qualified as a Marketing Planner, Corporate Management KMU-HSG and as a Specialized Pharmacist for Pharmaceutical Technology.
Subsequently, he became the Head of Marketing and Business Development at Life Sciences Meissner + Wurst in Stuttgart, Germany.
Mr. Jocham returned to Switzerland in 2000, as a Production Manager at ZLB Behring. In 2001, he was promoted to Head of Production and managed several projects, including the Facility Upgrade and the relocation of the Packaging and Visual Inspection and the Warehousing to Untermattweg. Since April 2004, he has worked as Site Manager of the Bern Center of Excellence for Immunoglobulins.

Robert Lefebvre
Vice President and General Manager, U.S. Commercial Operations
Robert D. Lefebvre is Vice President, General Manager, U.S. Commercial Operations. Mr. Lefebvre is responsible for all business operations and general management accountability for U.S. Commercial Operations. Prior to joining CSL Behring, Robert Lefebvre held the position of Vice President, Global Marketing, MDS Pharma Services, where he had full accountability for all marketing and external communications activities for that top five contract research organization. Previously, he spent nearly 13 years with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), having established a career there beginning in 1992 in Canada as head of the Oncology/Virology Business Unit and progressing upward through increasingly more responsible roles with BMS in their International and Global Marketing divisions, culminating in the role of Vice President/Global Brand Champion in Oncology Global Marketing. Prior to BMS, Mr. Lefebvre spent a number of years in sales and marketing management roles with Sandoz Canada. Mr. Lefebvre earned a Bachelor of Science degree at McGill University in Montreal and resides in New Hope, PA. He is married and has two children.

Roland Martin
Senior Vice President and General Manager, CSL Behring GmbH, Marburg
Dr Roland Martin was appointed General Manager of the Marburg, Germany site in November 2007. He is responsible for the management of manufacturing operations and essential support functions, including quality operations, engineering, human resources, finance, information solutions, planning & supply chain, as well as site R&D and legal functions.
Dr Martin first joined CSL in 1998 and has held key positions in Research & Development, Technical Operations and Commercial in Marburg, Bern and Melbourne. Most recently, Dr. Martin was Senior Vice President, Global Research & Development, responsible for the development of new plasma-based and recombinant products to explore new treatments for patients. He oversaw clinical research, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, product development and project management.
Dr Martin was born in Kaiserslautern, Germany and received his master’s degree in biology from Ruprecht-Karls University, Heidelberg, Germany. He earned his doctorate degree from the University of Hohenheim, Germany, in collaboration with the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Gordon Naylor
Executive Vice President, Plasma, Planning and Supply Chain
Gordon Naylor is responsible for plasma supply, global planning and supply chain management for CSL Behring. He is responsible for meeting the organization’s plasma needs as well as balancing plasma supply and the global manufacturing network with the plasma products markets served by CSL Behring. His areas of expertise include general management, strategic planning and engineering.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Naylor served as Senior Vice President of ZLB Plasma. In this capacity, he was responsible for managing all plasma sourcing for CSL Behring, which included overseeing plasma purchasing programs and plasma collection operations in both the United States and Europe. Plasma collection entails recruiting and screening donors, testing and freezing plasma and shipping plasma through a global logistics network to internal and external customers.
Throughout his career, Mr. Naylor has held many international positions with CSL. Initially, he worked in the Australian Plasma Products Facility, first as a project engineer with responsibility for automation, electrical and process systems and then as the operational Engineering and Logistics Manager. He then moved first to Austria and then to Ireland in order to manage an international project in Poland. Subsequently, he was assigned responsibility for the integration of ZLB (Switzerland) into the CSL group. He also had responsibility for a strategic planning and business development role based in Switzerland, prior to assuming the leadership role at ZLB Plasma in the United States.
Mr. Naylor is Chairman of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association and received bachelors’ degrees in Engineering and Computer Science from The University of Melbourne and an MBA from Melbourne Business School.
Paul R. Perreault
Executive Vice President, Worldwide Commercial Operations
With more than 25 years of healthcare industry experience, Paul Perreault is responsible for all sales, marketing and commercial development activities at CSL Behring. Previously, as the company’s Vice President and General Manager of the U.S. Commercial Operations, he was responsible for all sales, marketing, medical affairs, training and development, compliance and HR activities within the territory. Prior to joining CSL Behring, he was Vice President and General Manager of Plasma Operations at Aventis Bio-Services, where he oversaw all plasma operations and compliance initiatives at 79 plasma collection centers in the United States. He also managed the Environmental Health and Safety team and the Corporate Marketing Department. Additionally, he was Vice President and General Manager for the Aventis Behring Hospital Products Business Unit in North America and Puerto Rico. He previously worked for Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories for 16 years in various key positions, including Area Business Director, Manager of Marketing Programs and District Sales Manager. Mr. Perreault holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida and completed advanced business management training at the Kellogg and Wharton schools of business. Kathy Quay
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Kathy Quay brings nearly 20 years of human resources experience to CSL Behring. Her experience encompasses the full range of human resources management competencies, including organization effectiveness, talent acquisition and management, employee relations, total rewards, and change management. Ms. Quay has worked with Fortune 500 companies in the consumer, public service and pharmaceutical industries, with key roles in both domestic and international businesses. Prior to joining the company, she led HR for the R&D organization at Centocor, a Johnson and Johnson company. Previously, Ms. Quay held human resources leadership positions at Rhône-Poulenc Rorer, General Electric, Philadelphia Electric Company and Centeon, LLC. She received her degree in business administration from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa., with a concentration in industrial relations. Val Romberg
Senior Vice President, Research and Development
Val Romberg is responsible for the development of important new and improved protein based medicines that save lives by preventing or treating serious medical conditions. He oversees clinical research and development, pharmacovigilance and medical services, regulatory affairs, product and process development, virology and pathogen safety and project management at four sites. In this capacity, he works closely with CSL Research and Development in Parkville, Australia.
Mr. Romberg has more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Romberg joined West Pharmaceuticals in 1984 where his background in polymer chemistry was utilized to develop controlled release systems for delivery of pharmaceuticals to the eye and the colon. In 1995, he was promoted to a joint marketing/technical role to commercialize new products.
In 1998, Mr. Romberg joined Centeon, a predecessor company of CSL Behring, as a project manager in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. In this role, he was involved in the development of several products, both recombinant and plasma derived. In 2003, he assumed the role of Senior Director, Technical Operations in Kankakee, Illinois in manufacturing for Aventis Behring. In 2004, as a member of the Kankakee management team, he participated in the restructuring of the site, the start up of Building 21, and the initiation of the manufacture of ISCOMATRIX. In July 2006, he became Senior Director, Research & Development, in Bern, Switzerland, focusing on the development of immunoglobulins.
Mr. Romberg has a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Michigan.
Sergio Scrofani
Senior Vice President, Business Development
Dr. Serge Scrofani is responsible for identifying and negotiating new business opportunities in support of CSL Behring’s business strategy and for managing strategic planning.
Dr. Scrofani joined Zenyth (formerly Amrad) in 1998 and held various positions in both Research and Business Development, culminating in his appointment as Director of Business Development. Following CSL’s acquisition of Zenyth in 2006, Dr. Scrofani became Program Director of Recombinant Proteins, where he was responsible for coordinating activities for CSL’s recombinant protein portfolio.
Dr. Scrofani is an Adjunct Lecturer at The Melbourne Business School, where he lectures on Managing Biotechnology as part of the MBA program. He is an MBA alumnus of The Melbourne Business School and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Dr. Scrofani obtained his PhD at La Trobe University and undertook postdoctoral research studies at The University of Melbourne before completing a Fulbright postdoctoral fellowship at The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California.
Dr. Ingolf Sieper
Vice President and General Manager, Commercial Operations, Central Europe
With over 17 years of experience in the diagnostic and plasma divisions of ZLB Behring companies, Dr. Ingolf Sieper has a strong background in marketing and general management. He is currently based in Hattersheim, Germany and is responsible for CSL Behring’s commerical activities in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. His other recent assignments were the U.S.-based head of Global Business Units for Critical Care and Immunology and the Vice President and General Manager of Germany. Dr. Sieper attended the law school of J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. He also received his medical degree from J.W. Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany in 1987 and a BA from the European Business School in Oestrich, Germany in 1992. His career with ZLB Behring began in Medical Marketing with Behring Diagnostics and he has succeeded in a variety of marketing and management roles during his tenure of 7 years in coagulation diagnostics and 10 years in the plasma protein business. Markus Staempfli
Vice President and General Manager, Intercontinental Commercial Operations
Based in Bern, Markus Staempfli has more than 18 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. In his current position, he is responsible for five affiliates (Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Denmark); for distributors in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe; and for Toll Manufacturing. He is a member of the Board of Directors of CSL Behring AG.
Mr. Staempfli served as Head of Sales and Marketing for ZLB Bioplasma from 1994 to 2000. In that capacity, he also oversaw global procurement and logistics of plasma, business development and project management.
From 2000 to 2004 he worked in general management, where he was responsible for ZLB Bioplasma’s European Affiliates in Belgium, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Staempfli was employed by Novartis.
Kiyoaki Yamabe
Vice President and General Manager, CSL Behring K.K.
Kiyoaki Yamabe is the Vice President and General Manager, CSL Behring K.K. Based in Tokyo, he manages commercial operations for CSL Behring in Japan and is involved in regulatory and manufacturing activities. With more than 15 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, his areas of expertise include corporate planning, marketing and management. Mr. Yamabe began his career at Roche Japan K.K. as a medical representative and then held positions of Area Manager for Asia and Product Manager at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd (Switzerland). Subsequently, he assumed the role of President with DePuy, Japan Inc. (a Johnson & Johnson Group company) before becoming Regional Business General Manager and Vice President, Health Imaging with Kodak Japan Ltd. Prior to joining CSL Behring, Mr. Yamabe served as President and Representative Managing Director at Carestream Health Co., Ltd. (ex-Kodak Health Group) in Japan. Mr. Yamabe received an MBA from IMD (International Institute for Management Development) in Lausanne, Switzerland. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Japanese section of the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association.
